Multi-objective Decision-Making in the Optimal Product Design

Over the past two decades, a gradual shift from a process-centered chemical industry to a product-centered one has been witnessed. In this new paradigm, while considering chemical product design problem as a decision-making problem, the improvement of product quality is no longer the only criteria for success. The impact of market and competitive analysis, government policies and regulation, and company strategies have to be explicitly considered as well for product commercialization. Under this situation, the design problem always involves various objectives which are contradictory in nature. To lower the embedded complexities, multi-objective optimization method is used for facilitating the decision-makings.
