Development of a Bacteriophage-based Platform Technology: Application in the Treatment of Hydrogen sulfide Generation

Abstract

Bacteria proliferation causes infection and their by-products damage civil infrastructure, disrupts daily living and poses a threat to occupational safety. In wastewater, bacteria are in constant contact with antibacterial-compounds which allow them to mutate and gain resistances. Yet, here they also encounter naturally occurring agents which can kill bacteria and control their population using bacteriophage. Bacteriophages or phages are bacterial viruses which infect and kill bacteria while being completely harmless to other organisms. Though they once rivaled antibiotics in the control of human diseases, the production process is complicated. This study aims to develop a platform technology for the isolation and production of a bacteriophage preparation that can control the target organism.
